Cast down your reason for language
that presided over dead voices
with soul so whole it knew
words that writhe from feminine intent
as manly enough to move mountains
by a simple purse of lips
and gentled whisper from ancients
who spoke to him from cages full of wings.
Man and God resided in his bones
nurtured by hand of woman,
woman, his saving grace
woman, lips of grape and gripe
women, tearing flesh like strips of rags
these he knew from underworld journey
and that place of bad men with bad intent
which he knew, in his guts, he was capable of
but he rose out of the rubble to open gilded cage:
doves flew from her mouth
to curl up in his heart and feed him phrases
he had never thought of before

Exceptional poetry. This poem struck cords of Ancient Rome, Greece, Asia Minor, Middle East... Beautifully penned with layers of artfully chosen phrases. Yes, yes, you too have made my task even harder poet. The opening lines drew me in easily. Your second stanza made me want to applaud its reality. Expertly written! Thank you for this submission in my contest. I wish you the best!
