Homeless

You know we've all seen them, maybe everyday.
Those faceless, and nameless, that have lost their way.
They are so uncomfortable to be around.
So we try to avoid them, by looking down.
But no one is faceless, or nameless at all.
Just sometimes we fall.
Next time you pass one just say Hi.
Why, because it will make them try.
Don't assume that they made that choice.
I personally think, they've lost their voice.
Don't look away in disgust.
After all it is us, they should not trust.
It is us that just walk on by.
Never bothering to look in their eye's.
Why do we do that?
I know this is true.
You're afraid you'll look and see, a reflection of you.

Author notes

Just a reminder that this could be any of us. Kindness is the perfect gift at this time of year, no matter what Holiday you celebrate, or even if you don't. Acknowledgment is a gift in itself. Connie

Sweet thoughts... if it could be done always. This is flowing with words of kindness, love, and compassion over humanity. Kindness is a gift, that is so true... one smile, one kind word... can melt many long winter nights.
I very much enjoy reading your works. I hope you know that cause I now have you on my list of favorites
    Blessed be
    Blanche

We are all just one step away.

So long as you remember, hey that could be me, it's easy. The simple things we do for others really return to us. Thanks, Connie

      Thanks,

I've been a little busy lately, so I haven't been here as much. I'll be getting more writing done shortly, I'm pleased to be on your favorites. See you again soon, Connie.

This is so very true. Having been on both sides of the fence, for a short time I know but it opened my eyes to the bad luck that befalls so many people, through no fault of their own, into a situation that is so difficult to get out of. People from all walks of life, of high and lower education standards and from all income brackets can make a wrong choice or trust the wrong person and the life they knew and the people they loved have all gone. There, but for the grace of God go I....... Very well chosen words to make us all have a reminder that we are all people with hopes and dreams.

      Thanks,

Just trying to remind people that it really can be any of us.
At this time of the year people think celebrations, so how about helping someone celebrate, even if it's only with a kind look, or word. Connie

    Very poignant

I like poems like this that everyone can relate to. Who hasn't felt like this before upon seeing a street person? You've really captured that feeling of mixed emotions. Well done.

      Thanks,

Hopefully it will open some eyes as well, and change some people's perspective of things. Connie

A truly inspirational write and I completely agree with the sentiments. I will think about this poem when I see a homeless person and this time I won't look away. Thanks for sharing!

Well you really made me cringe with this one... You literally reached out and slapped me in the face here!! I am a big advocate for helping the homeless but you still made me feel shame... Thank you for that. We all need to be humbled at times. Wonderful write so filled with truth!!
