Pavor Nocturnus

Another self induced night terror ~
Mumbled screams! Unable to fully rouse;

ethereal veil between slumbering
madness & an insane tranquil repose

Nicotine, caffeine, dopamine,
or maybe an evil Devil gene
unsure what it could have been
only know it's still haunting

and fully knowing some synthetic

nightmares visit my waking panic,
I encourage more the next night
with chemical invitations

romancing an inner lunatic -

those most terrible that
I remember upon waking,
are filed away in folders
inside my head...
with memories titled
"Visions of Hell" or
"Dance with the Dead".

This is brilliant. I could so relate to this and loved how you have written this. My favourite lines were "with chemical invitations romancing an inner lunatic". This is so brilliantly said. Well done and best of luck for the contest.

I find that this is a good dark poem for our Group Contest. I'm sorry, it's taken me so long to comment [and post my own] nonetheless, we're talking about the poem.

    The Poem:
    and fully knowing some synthetic

    nightmares visit my waking panic,
I encourage more the next night
    with chemical invitations

    romancing an inner lunatic -

I cannot help but find that was the most powerful stanza of the poem, and not only that, my favorite! Good luck in the contest!

I found this very entertaining. At the first I thought okay it's good, but as it went on you really pulled it all together. A force to be reckoned with. Very Good!

Good write. You set the mood of the poem very well with your use of specific diction. I got a weird feeling from the use of caffeine in you montage of substances. Maybe a different one with the same -ine ending. Good luck on your contest

Oh now I really like this. Very nice imagery but an unusual feel. Excellent, especially "Nicotine, caffeine, dopamine,
or maybe an evil Devil gene" ..that works great. Well done. Good luck in the contest

This gave me cld chills during parts of it.
Although I'm not a huge fan of rhyming poetry, this is nicely done.

It rhymed? Huh, I wasn't aware that I had even rhymed in this one... except for the last stanza. (Just kidding, of course)... Glad it gave you chills. I actually suffer from this condition from time to time.

    Overwhelming

The impact is powerful, and though I could not have insight into this myself-- I must confess, you certainly did a good job in portraying that. The image above emphasizes the piece itself well.

WOW! That picture is intense!!! Working quite well with the prompt, this piece adds a sort of hypnotic flair to darkness within dreaming, and lucidity above the rim.
Deep streaks of internal demise; living without 'life' coursing through those moments of slumber - even when awake. A great write!

    That's some pic.
    I know that monster
I love this piece"insane tranguil repose"
every time I read , I get shivers...
    Awesome imagery,
and the last stanza is pure genius--
    'Folders in your head'
    'Dance with the dead'
    What a remarkable poem!!!
