Silently he sat on a bus full of strangers
He was one of the last on
And the bus was nearly full
There was no seat he could have to himself
He'd had a hard day at work
And all he wanted to do was sit down
So he did
With his head hung down
He sat up the front of the bus
In a four seater seat
Near an old woman
Another woman got on with her baby
She needed a seat
So she sat next to the lady in the four seater
The old woman moved over for her
Squishing up to the guy next to her
Didn't she notice him flinch?
Didn't she feel his whole body tense up?
Didn't she see his eyes get darker?
Didn't she see him curl into a ball?
Didn't she feel him trying to get away from her touch?
Still he sat there silently
Trying to hide from the world
The woman next to him got off the bus
And he slowly started to relax
To come out of the ball he was curled in
Until a man came and sat next to him
In the same position the woman did
Squashed up beside him
Making him tense and curl up again
Why Couldn't They See?
