FAITH.
Shadows of night surround me
as dark the path I've trod
yet, in the morning, shall I see
my GOD.
Life was ever beautiful -
my faith has made it so
for GOD is with the dutiful
I know.
Now, as my latest hour draws near,
I fear not death nor grave
for CHRIST, our Saviour Lord, came here
to save.
Though mortal meat blind worms may eat
beneath the heaving sod,
in faith, my soul will rise to meet
my GOD.

I often think of god as a poly-breasted beautiful accepting deity who gives me everything, but leaves the boundaries up to me, until I realize what I need.
A practical deity who never dismisses the consequences.
I don't really believe in a god. It's fine and lovely to do so. Preferable really.
I just want a god who lets me, and encourages me to masturbate...or have sex with someone I love. Even if it's me.

I enjoyed this read. I understand how you faith impacts your life, as dose mine. you have certainly changed my mind on a few things with this right.
It was a great read thank you.

I've no idea what a strong faith (or any faith) must be like but I'm sure it's my loss. We are what we are I guess, and will be what we will be, but I could do without the worms crawling in and out of my snout.
I sense something interesting there, maybe unintentional, but interesting. Calling the worms blind, suggesting that they are nothing more than simple things, thus, the loss of bodily form is trivial, unimportant for those more enlightened than mere worms. That's good, either because you thought of it, or good because I did. I'm, of course, rooting for me.
Hey wait, that makes me a worm...ah well, a worm in a snout is a step above a snake in the grass I guess. Yeah I'm
Despite my silly digressions, It's excellent Hugh.

Your faith is so strong. I admire one who has no fear of death. Today, at 75, that is still not considered old. Your poem makes me a bit sad, knowing that you are already thinking of your demise. Me thinks you have many more years of writing, playing and praying! P.S. What is this form called?

A young girl of 3 died in the early hours of this morning and this poem is a beautiful tribute to her. I am honored to read this and can feel the pain in my heart healing. Thank you Uncle Hugh. You're amazing

Dear Hugh,
A very beautiful spiritual poem you have written.
When it comes my time to go home I won't be afraid either, I will hold out my arms to be lifted up, but not for a long while yet and neither are you my friend. You're staying right here where you belong.
Love Bea XOXO

Memento mori
This is the time when faith is a real consolation.
Your lines are measured and somber, with a solid basis and hope within. "I fear not death nor grave" should be the attitude for life.
Lovely writing.
