Oh Walled Town Of Bethlehem - silver

Missing image

Oh little town of Bethlehem, how down we’ve seen you fall
So in thy drum and thrum of life, you’re caught behind a wall
Yet star still shines and moon still seeks your face
So holy thoughts shall comfort you in this holy place.

Such sacred site as God confirmed, a teacher sent to earth
And this was the exact dear ground, such setting for his birth
Our face is turned towards thee, our hearts are full of prayer
That Peace will come, as Peace came then, when love was needed there.

In this curve and crave for power, how little do we know
What God will send to man for this, what sorrow and what woe
For this defilement and barricade that keeps devotion’s away
Such soulfulness and Love Divine will find man’s heart this day

So silence can find this city’s bed, as ancient wise men would
With gifts that heal and nurture this, the birthright of all good
And angels will be heard, around a caring passioned world
So love of all and peace to all, can slowly be unfurled.

jpg - The eight-meter-high concrete wall Israel built around Bethlehem -- officially intended to keep Palestinian suicide bombers out of Israel -- has become the world's largest canvas. Palestinian and international artists have covered it with grafitti, art and slogans against Israel's forty-year occupation of the West Bank. Artist Unknown

Oh Little Town Of Bethlehem -
Phillips Brooks, an Episcopal priest, was inspired when he was visiting the town of Bethlehem in 1865. Three years later, he wrote the poem for his church and his organist, Lewis Redner, added the music.

Read this poem then went to the video before commenting and got distracted! This is a touching parody and it's nice to see. Thank you so much for entering and sharing in this way.

A sad serenade for such a blessed town.
I didn't know of that wall either.
Your rhythm and rhyme was sublimely sorrowful.
Sad, but still filled with hope...

I especially like the balanced, alliterative doublets that by themselves almost capture what the entire poem is saying. And along the way, they add verbal interest and rhythm to the lines. Well done.

I had no idea about the wall! Your poem reminded me that divine love does find us. Sometimes it seems I'm striving for God so hard I'm missing that he's here and does heal us! That's only during the life storms though. lol A beautiful poem; I love it!!

    Peace Georgia
