Sonnet #4

Betwixt a hard trevail or easy quest,
I chose the former though it be
A surely baleful tri'l to me,
e'en if I must accept eternity,
And this is mine, and 'twil be my test.
I taketh on myself a wretched name
and so I bring with it the stinging flame
that burneth field and flow'r just the same,
so ne'er a soul before hath acquiesced.

Before me now, expounding unto Space,
I find a flow'ring, wilting human race
with eyes of beauty and of death
that swollen beast with every dying breath,
and having but a single entity--
that one with Love, and thank God it is thee.

Author notes

This is a petrarchan sonnet.

It's scheme is thus:

Okay, so perhaps it's a slight variation of a Petrarchan sonnet.

Please tell me what you think

Interesting scheme, Hun, haven't seen this one before (our english program SUCKS XD ). Yet once again I see death and destruction. Have you been watching the history channel lately about how we're all doomed? wait, you don't watch tv, silly me

    love you and your poem
