For Everything There Is A Season : A Collection Of Poetry By Ruth Kephart

Welcome
Hello my name is Ruth Kephart and my book is For Everything There Is A Season : ISBN # 1-4241-4513-9 published 7/2006.

For Everything There Is a Season is a collection of poetry filled with warmth, frankness, and passion. It contains a mixture of styles involving love, birth, death and everyday life. For Everything There Is a Season is an emotional journey through poetry that will make you step back and re-evaluate your own life and its experiences. Even those who are not confirmed poetry lovers will enjoy this collection for its simplistic messages and colorful imagery. "When winter has ended, life begins anew." So begins this voyage of words.

Excerpts from For Everything There Is A Season ISBN # 1-4241-4513-9

For Everything There Is A Season

From the kitchen, I watch
as leaves in infinite colors give way
to bare branches
and the cycle of life
to death completes itself
both unaware of and unheeded by my presence.

I stare at the dropping leaves
that cover the ground
beneath your tree
and remember how you fell to earth,
caught in my arms, for just a moment
when life and death joined
despite my frantic pleas.

Tears fall, clouding my eyes;
though my visions of you have never been clearer.
Each line, every tiny curve of you
was committed to memory
in those precious moments only days before
dust was given unto dust.

I gaze out to your tree and recall
the young sapling, strapped and bare,
place in the ground the same day as you.
Five years now it has survived
the changing of the seasons
and like me, has wintered the storms.

I turn from the window, my fingers touching
the familiar rounded swell of my growing belly
where your baby sister kicks. Like you were,
she is eager to bring
her unique color into my world;
and I will welcome change with open arms.

When winter has ended,
life begins anew.

One day I’ll Soar

I may never fly
On graceful wing
Or voice my song
Like robins sing
Or know the secrets
Revealed in flight
In heavens dark
On starry night
I may never know
What wings are for
But mark my words
One day I'll soar

nice to meet you, ruth ...
your poetry reflects great wisdom and sensitivity, I had the image of an "elder" speaking to the gathered women in a sacred circle ... teaching the ways of nature, and that death is to be embraced as a passing stade within the wheel of life ...
I smiled when I read about the baby to be born ... on monday december 10th, my step-mother gave birth to my first ever brother in this life ... at age 42 !

thank you for sharing your soul,

    marion

The poems on this page express such heartfelt emotion - it is poetry weaved with strings pulled from deep within. There's a sadness here, yet the light shines through... beautiful, Ruth.

My own book came available on the 9th December and I think it too captures what you've said about your own book - one can only write from the pulse.
