Chap. 4
“What’s ye business here?” questioned a soldier. Serenity noticed that the voice was the voice that had startled them only moments before.
Jason stepped up and began calming him. “Relax General Dirth, it’s me, Rivon.”
The general gasped. “So sorry Rivon. I had no idea it was you. Isabella told me that you would be gone for another week. However, you can never be too careful this time of night.” The general chuckled, but you could tell it was full of fear.
Soon, on General Dirth’s orders, the soldiers began moving and Jason and Serenity were allowed to pass into the castle. When they were out of earshot, Serenity questioned Jason. “What did General Dirth call you? Was that a nickname or something?”
Jason calmly replied, his voice expressionless. “That is my real name, Rivon. And,” Jason added, seeing that Serenity was about to ask yet another question, “I have a reason for not telling you.”
Serenity sighed. It’s like he has another life that I had no idea about. I might know Jason, but I don’t know Rivon.
They continued walking forward, Serenity, no idea what was going to come. The whole castle was like a maze, but, fortunately, Jason seemed to know where he was going.
All of a sudden, Serenity’s surroundings disappeared and she arrived in a forest. A woman was kneeling, crying softly over a big pile of stones. Serenity snapped back to reality to gaze over at Jason. He was staring forward, not noticing the interruption in Serenity’s mind. Serenity wondered what had just happened, but before she was about to explain to Jason, they stopped in front of a grand door.
The door was painted gold, the lines running over it made Serenity dizzy. There was a water lotus in the middle, and some words which Serenity could not decipher were below it. With a flick of his wrist, Jason opened the door.
As soon as the door made way for them, Serenity almost fainted at the sight of it. The inside of the room was also painted gold. There were pillars that towered over it, leaving eerie shadows on the red and purple carpet, which paved the way to a throne. The throne was made out of wood and painted brilliant, vibrant colors. It too, had lines over it and a giant water lotus in the middle of it.
Sitting on the throne, sat a queen. Her fair golden hair was down to her waist, which was shining and smooth as silk. She wore a violet dress, and—much like her hair—caught Serenity attention. On her head was a silver tiara, with one dazzling sapphire jewel in the center. She stood up and welcomed her visitors with open arms. When she spoke, her voice was clear and radiant. “Rivon!” she exclaimed, her voice with much surprise. “How did you manage to get her back here so quickly? Nevertheless, you passed. People will honor your name for many generations to come. I expect nothing gave you trouble?”
Jason hesitated, as if he didn’t want to tell the queen something that would greatly upset or worry her. “Well,” Jason mumbled, “We did have a little trouble.”
The queen raised her eyebrow. “Oh?” she wondered. “How little?”
The next part Jason said came out really fast, like he was trying to get it over with. “Two Malks came to my house and attacked me. I tried to drive them away, as it was only one. But then it called reinforcements and overpowered me. I just managed to get Serenity here in time.”
“That is the utmost unfortunate bad news, but I’m glad that you guys escaped.” Then her eyes strayed to Serenity and at once, her baby blue eyes lit up. “Ilea, I’ve waited—no, Alercaria— has waited for your return for several long years. I expect you have tons of questions, and Rivon and I will try our best to answer them. However, some of the questions we cannot or will not tell you. So you will have to find them out yourselves. Oh! And how rude of me not to introduce myself. My name is Isabella and I rule Albyra. May my home be your home.”
“Thank you, Isabella, for your hospitality,” thanked Serenity.
Serenity wondered what Isabella had called her a few moments before, but before she could ask, Isabella once again spoke up. “Come, Il—Serenity, we have much explaining to do.”
Isabella got up from her throne and led Serenity and Jason to a door behind her throne. Isabella opened the door with a key she had on her wrist and ushered them in. Isabella walked in and locked the door behind her. “For safety and privacy,” she explained.
Inside the room was a table with a sapphire tablecloth on it. On the table was a sword, coated with a rusty color and scent. Around the table were three chairs. Around each chair was an amethyst rope. Serenity looked at the middle of the table and found a lantern, as the room was very dark. Isabella and Jason sat down and Serenity followed. Isabella cleared her throat and spoke. “Okay, now we can start.”
what do you think Isabella meant by "Okay, now we can start"?
