Chap. 2
“The movie was okay; it was better than the first, but not as good as the second, and definitely not as exciting as the third,” Serenity said to Jason as she shared her opinion about the movie.
“True. Although my favorite is the first. I really liked the plot and the part about the girl almost getting massacred; that part had my heart pounding in my chest for awhile.”
“My favorite part was when that guy turned around and then the monster was there behind him. I seriously thought he was going to die.” Serenity and Jason were still in the movie theater, walking and taking their sweet time. “He’s also one of my favorite characters. I couldn’t bear it if anything happened to him,” Serenity added.
That movie was their fifth that week; Serenity already treated Jason as if she knew him for a couple of years. However, the truth was they only knew each other for a couple of days.
“You know, it is pretty cold tomorrow. Do you want to go do something at my house? Or would you prefer to do something else?” Serenity asked, with some hope in her violet, sparkling eyes.
“Well, actually, my older sister is coming home from college… and I have to be the one who stays home and asks her all about it,” complained Jason. “But,” he added, “After, we can go to the mall together.”
“Sure, that sounds like fun. Actually, if you don’t mind, could I come to your house to meet your sister? My parents are going to pick out tiles for our kitchen floor. How fun!”
Jason laughed, and Serenity smiled. “No problem. See you later!”
* * * *
Serenity walked up to Jason’s house, a little bit nervous. What’s there to be nervous about? Serenity asked herself. Jason’s nice, and I bet, so are his parents.
She stopped in front of the door, took a deep breath, and then rang the doorbell. Jason answered after a couple of seconds. “Hey,” he greeted her, “come in!”
He opened the door a little wider so Serenity could step in. The surprise of actually being in Jason’s house made Serenity trip over a lamp cord. She fell forward, but, Jason caught her. “Hey, I don’t want you spraining your ankle just after a few seconds,” he teased.
Embarrassed, Serenity stood up and followed Jason upstairs into his room. His room was ordinary; a bed in the corner, some posters of baseball and basketball stars on the walls, and some socks scattered over a rug in the middle. She studied the room, and then sat on Jason’s bed.  “Hold on, let me get something real quick,” muttered Jason and rushed out of the room.
Serenity nodded and watched as Jason left the room. She didn’t want to snoop, so she just sat on the bed, thinking. After at least ten minutes, Serenity was starting to get impatient. Where is he? Serenity wondered.
She heard a crash downstairs, but paid no attention whatsoever to it. Shouting followed the crash soon after. The voice who was shouting belonged to Jason. Serenity was starting to get scared. She took some deep breaths and told herself that Jason was probably yelling at his older sister. Brother and sister often did that.
There was another crash and the shouting grew louder. Serenity was could hear Jason, but could not understand him. It was like Jason was speaking a foreign language.
Then, finally, Jason returned. His hair was tussled and his eyes were frantic. “Got to get her out of here,” he murmured. “Sending more. Got to hurry.” His voice was strained.
He turned to Serenity and led her to a standing position. “There’s something I have to tell you,” he whispered quite fast. “I’m not from here. What I mean by that is that I’m not from this town, state, continent, or even this world! Hah, sorry, I didn’t mean it like that,” he reassured Serenity, who seemed shocked by what he had just explained. “I’m not an alien, in fact, I’m an...” But Jason didn’t get to finish what he was about to say because at that precise moment, four creatures that looked exactly like the ones Serenity had dreamed about a few nights ago, burst in through the door, with spears that were pointed directly at her.
“Never mind, come on!” Jason yelled as he picked up something heavy and threw it at them, knocking them down the stairs. Then, Jason slammed the door and put a chair under it.
He then led Serenity in the back of his closet and pulled down a poster of the solar system. Instead of a blank wall behind it, there was a purple hole with a picture of a castle in the background. Behind the castle were spacious mountains and a luscious, green forest around it. It reminded Serenity of a dream she once had long, long ago.
While Serenity was studying the castle, Jason had said some words and now the purple hole glowed yellow. “Come on, jump!” ordered Jason.
“I don’t know about this,” Serenity trembled.
“Would you rather have a spear through you?” Jason snapped.
“Fine!”
Jason took Serenity’s hand and they jumped into the hole, Serenity uncertain of her fate.
They were just in time, too. As they jumped, the yellow around the hole dimmed and the hole vanished. Then, the door burst open and a spear landed at the exact same spot Jason had stood just a few moments before.

where do you think Serenity and Jason are headed?
