story(unamed)--chap 1

Chap. 1:
Fourteen-year old Serenity Kenner was sitting at her desk, twirling her brown hair, and her violet eyes, which often got her a compliment from her teachers, were off in space, daydreaming about April’s up-coming party on Saturday. Of course, Serenity knew that she wasn’t invited. She didn’t have many friends; they all thought she was weird. And those that sort of hung out with her where the ones that felt the most sorry for her, but it never lasted.
Serenity often dreamed that someone else far, far away needed her help, and that she would be trust into a world of adventure. She also dreamed that she would one day own a dragon, but, of course, that wouldn’t happen.
Serenity almost fell out of her seat when her teacher clapped her hands together to announce that a new kid named Jason would be joining them. “I want you all to treat him with respect, like you do me,” she ordered, then went back to grading papers.
Great, a new kid, thought Serenity. I say, the football team might ask him to play for them. He’s not half bad looking, either. Oh well, it’s not if we’re going to be friends in a million years.
When it was lunch, just as Serenity predicted, the football team and captain, Marcus, came up to poor Jason, who was sitting all alone. Serenity watched from a distance, thinking, I do kind of feel sorry for the new kid. If I was the new kid, I wouldn’t want a football team pestering me on my first day of school. Hmmm…
Marcus leaned over Jason, and spoke- his rough voice reminded Serenity of sandpaper. “So, Jason, was it? Yeah, have you ever played football at your old school before? Because you look like the kind of kid that has.”
Jason stopped chewing his pizza and looked up. “No, and why do you want to know?”
Marcus shrugged. “Well, I was wondering if perhaps you would want to join the football team. We’ve been short one player since the season began.”
Jason was quiet for a time, the responded in a harsh voice that didn’t belong to him. “You know, it is sort of annoying when you pester some kid that you aren’t even sure how well he plays. I don’t even think you hold tryouts for football. You just annoy them to death, until they agree to join. Now, if you excuse me, I have to finish my lunch.”
The captain’s face turned an unpleasant red as he turned around and marched out of the cafeteria with his friends following, muttering something about disrespect and bad influence.
Jason acted as if he didn’t notice; he went back to his pizza and started gulping it down. Serenity, on the other hand, who was sitting a couple tables away, had her pizza-frozen midway to her mouth. Wow. That was something you don’t see everyday.... not everybody-especially a new kid-could have stood up to Marcus and his gang.

The bell was going to ring, and Serenity had her hands full of books for her math teacher. Serenity had her eyes down on the first book as she rounded a corner. All you need to know about-WHAM! Serenity crashed down to the floor and her books scattered everywhere. There-staring down at her-was Jason.
He looked kind of embarrassed as he extended his arm toward her. Serenity took it and pulled herself up. She stood to face him, and immediately got mesmerized in his deep blue eyes. Jason was the first to speak. “I’m so sorry. That was rude of me. I wasn’t watching where I was going. Please say that you’ll forgive me.”
Serenity snapped back to reality and nodded. “That’s okay. It was partly my fault anyway; I was staring at a math book.”
Jason laughed a cheerful laugh. “Are math books really that interesting?”
Serenity laughed also.
They where quiet for a moment, then Jason startled Serenity with a suggestion. “Hey, do you know that one movie? The one that just came out? Yeah, well, I got two tickets to it; do you want to join me?”
Serenity was caught off guard. No one had ever invited her to do something before. “Sure, I’ll go. Thanks for inviting me.”
“Hey, no problem. It’s the least I can do for running you over like that.” Jason smiled a cute, beautiful smile.
Just then, the bell rang, and Jason and Serenity hurried off to class.

It was when Serenity arrived home that she had a thought. Jason looks familiar...wonder if I’ve seen him around before. No, he said he moved here from somewhere far away. Nevertheless, I just have that feeling...

That night, Serenity had a dream, one that was strangely familiar, like an old memory.
Serenity was in the middle of a forest with a dragon and a person with a cape on, so she could not see his face. There were ugly, hideous creatures coming out of the trees; their horns were painted red, like blood; their wrinkled faces had on a mask of anger; their spears where pointed right at her and the person. Then the person turned to her and muttered an order, “Trust your guide and return to Alercaria.”
Then Serenity woke up. It took a minute, but she went back to sleep. Then when she awoke in the morning, she didn’t remember any of it.
