Pieces And Puzzles

What place has man in Nature's schemes?
A bridge that spans the black abyss
that yawns beneath our feet in dreams,
the while we pause and reminisce,
exploring all life's countless themes.

If brute we were, long ages past,
uncouth, degenerate ape-man;
yet to the end we'll come at last,
a rudimentary super-man --
with future bright and powers vast.

Envision how our world could be
if Intellect, like Cosmic-Mind,
emblazoned Life's periphery --
and Art and Science joined to find
the key that bares Infinity.

This is a well crafted poem, Jim, and one that reminded me of me, and some of my writes.
It is brimming with hope, while sharing the angst which accompanies this world of ours today. Nicely done, and again, very well crafted and said.
    peace

Consistant meter and effortless rhyme are just so pleasing to my eye . . . thank you. It is a common question: what is our purpose, our place? How do we fit, how can we fit to make world brighter in some small way? Your piece inspires contemplation of the best kind for me. I have a question about the 4th line of the first stanza, though: "the while". Is it a typo, or am I missing something?

      Thanks ...

      for the kind words.

As far as line 4, you are probably familiar with the phrase as "all the while", but the all is understood so there's no reason to include it and it would wreck the meter in the line.

That was incredible! It was short enough to hold my attention the whole way through and it was perfectly penned. Thanks!

    Of art and science

I love the originality of that third stanza as a final
frontier...how art and science sometimes find paradox.
"The key that bares infinity" deep and philosophical..
    Modern and sublime...

That last hopefilled verse is golden! Yet at times,I envision mankind in the grand scheme of things. The lesser the longer he strives. I'm aware it's the nature of the beast/humankind/, to reach onward.Yet in doing so.We lose a delicate important part of the soul nature intended. You've beautifully descried our reach must excede our grasp,or what's a heaven for.Well in this.

      Only time will tell ...

but you're right. Robert Browning spoke the truth.

      Thanks again.
