Auld Lang Syne

A poet with distinctive styles
Who brings us tears and also smiles
Whose verses ring across the miles
Upon A.P.
Who ne'er insults, but oft beguiles
That's MargaretG

I'm told that five decades ago
You came into this world we know
In bleak midwinter. Was there snow
Upon that night?
So near to Christmas, all aglow
In sparkling white?

I wish you festive birthday cheer
And many more for many a year
Some fine mulled wine? Some foaming beer?
That would be fine
So drink a cup of kindness, dear
For Auld Lang Syne

I would love to hear you sing it

Keith so that I linger on a note and syllable you mean us to!
What a lovely gesture! For me, "bleak midwinter" is acceptable, being completely out of carolling context and very much in the context here. So, I beg to differ. Again, the closeness of the birthdays must not be forgotten, Margaret being a Christian. I know that she will be attached to this season. [My wife was born on Christmas Day, 1940! Her name is Joy.]
A point: will you be around when Margaret turns 100? These days, this is not out of the question.

An interesting tribute... and the metre is neatly handled...

But do think again about "bleak midwinter" - owing to the carol this expression is rather a cliche -and, moreover, some members might feel that it is inappropriate to apply a phrase from a carol to any other Birth.

    Happiness here...

A poem to enjoy and smile over, most certainly! The message sparks out splendidly penned lines.

    love it

Burns' meter seems to be mainly forgotten, except when you or I write something new in it. Thank you for these good wishes (beer for me). Last night my friends were describing me at 100 - white haired with twinkling eyes.
    Thank you Keith.
