Feast of Emptiness

I hike for the wildness in the sky’s eye;
step past the time when the mind
has more arguments with forever;

open the places where the edge of the world
falls out of the mouth of the moon, dances
against my heart; leaves me a fountain
spilling songs into an earth ready to hear.

Man is more than his visions, the wind in feathers --
owls, eagles, feet full of the race of ponies.
In his humility, he breathes in the universe, exhales eternity.

This is an ecstatic piece. Just like in many ways the one of yours I just reviewed. Their is a celebration of life, our aliveness, our being that sings beyond all the yammering of our mind and when we enter this zone of enlightment we become total and a part of the universe.
      Love, Tom B.

I could wish I were a feather to drift on the warm winds, let my quill be caught in the leaves of a tree, to draw lace of shadows and sunshine, or become a mini sail for dreams in a waterfall wearing an arch of rainbows.

Timeless your sky's eye and "The Bridge Across Forever" (Richard Bach) expanding vistas. Your soul is singing, Tom.

When we dance with hearts alone and let ourselves feel the age of stone, all the lives tossed into our hands make us realize that time is sand. In the moment that lives in all are the songs of peace that make us tall. The kingdom of heaven is in us all. Peace on earth comes when we can be large not small. We feel the fit of life and love and joy flows in circles as we root and touch what is the gift from above.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Let each day like a bell ring clear,
      Tom B.

        Wakefulness

So it is, truth, the gift from above
where the word is ONE, manifest Love,
knows light to be untouched by time,
        birthless and deathless, joy sublime.

God, we are not, but life in His plan,
finds image held pure in the Great I AM.
So, harken I shall the bells ringing clear,
the music is mine, in harmonies dear.

For that which my eyes have chosen to see,
my heart knows Good is all that can be,
for All is complete despite dreams we unfold,
Divine will on earth...our heaven to hold.

          Thankfulness

What I give never equals all I have received.
The hearts of others that bless me, touch me
far deeper than many can see. Only by reflecting
the Light that shines into my heart can I start
repay all that has been given me.

Much to be learned and much to be done,
I know that in this life time I have just begun.
For you, my friend, this is true: You create
a wonderful light of sweet blessing in the heart
sparking fires that do not burn what they touch
but shed healing light while they burn bright
with your love. So, I am blessed

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you
As winds stir and we watch each season deeply
never knowing which will be the last, I
give you a smile, wry and full of joy,
a kiss upon your cheek for friendhip blessed,
and hope that when the rains fall against
the window you see my smile reflected in each one.

          Love, Tom B.

When we are no longer a discussion of being or of our experience, we are empty of our thoughts -- mind still, then we are in the eyes of the Buddha a feast of this moment. I hope this is explanation enough.

True artistry in the moment. A tapestry of explicit concepts sparking dendrites to scream, "Give Me More!"

"In his humility, he breathes in the universe, exhales eternity."

A perfect curtain draw; a breath so real that the exhalation takes forever to conclude.

Mel, You know that we are most alive when we are in the moment experienceing the experience. I felt fortunate to be able to catch it with this poem. Just as I know you love me and always have. But you have had your own life run its up and down for you. And we know my love is just a pure and caring one with no promise of being more than a heart for you to rest in. This poem is about the ecstatic high of being alive and knowing how much you are a part of everything.

Very nice, but a bit too much to take in. Your words are simple and flow with a gentle fluidity, yet they don’t seem to adhere together quite to my liking. I feel that for a short poem it’s well written, however I believe some head scratching would be in order to decipher its true meaning.

beautiful, a man in tune with the world, the sky, the moon, the waters, the earth, elemental passion and conjunction, knowing his place within it all, and exulting in it. The simplicity of enlightenment and the humanity of sharing. Very well done.

I knew if this poem were in a contest it would garner GOLD! You've grabbed hold of the heavenlies, and pitched them to Earth...they rebounded and touched the planet that the ancient Egyptians have inhabited.

"open the places where the edge of the world
falls out of the mouth of the moon"

This is the place of everlasting. Beautiful!

love that final line... spiritually uplifting, indeed! I love the title and the picture that the words paint in my mind....

beautiful and peaceful with a subtle sense of accomplishment, of having arrived...

it conveys a sense of familiarity, perhaps only briefly, with perfections, or at least feeling close to perfection... not prideful, not one's own, but near perfection that the author has had the pleasure of being near...

One of the gifts in my life has been both the ecstatic vision and the experience of being totally in the "now" When I can succeed in sharing this briefly in a poem, I feel I am gifted. The joy in these transcendent moments is hard to capture and share in a meaningful way. That this poem appears to be able to do that is a time of celebration. Joy scintillates when it is shared and allowed to illuminate other's hearts.

There is something that reminds me of Bhuddism within the feast of emptiness, the peeling away of all the layers that overlap until the point, the pinnacle,of a void that is at the same time empty but full and fulfilling.
Recently I forgot something( nothing new, memory like a sieve!) My little one encapsulated in technological terms,he said " Don't worry Mom,your memory card is full" it made me smile and gifted a heart-smile,for if it was only as easy as buying a "memory card" and selecting what to keep and which to erase at the click of the button...

Your poem reaches into the parts that are attainable when all else that is sustainable is fine but with the reaching of the peak it is feathered...

I understand both the mountain high and the valley low
,man is more than his visions, with work he may become a visionary...

Enough rambling dear poet and may you experience many more natural endorphins...

Yvette, I should of known that you would understand clearly the meaning in Feast of Emptiness. After writing this, reverting to my buddhism seemed the only path for a title. The poem is so ecstatic and revelatory that I didn't want to gild the lily.

Thanks for all of your thoughts and insights. Most of all for sharing a smile about the "memory card"
