words

touchstones
between souls

I dip from your wellspring
bitter brine,
reeling relief,
ambrosial ecstasy;

I share your laughter,
experienced counsel,
enfolding love;

I smell your spice cupboard
baking day,
the whiff of rain gentling
crisp clothes
dryed on the line;

I hold your heart,
hopes,
restless nights,
weathered storms;
sing my little ones songs
your lips savored

from brittle pages
transformed to treasures
by a pen
that inscribed your

words

  • How did I miss this poem? What immense beauty, what depth of relationship. All of the beautiful pleasures of truly knowing someone and appreciating the little things that amount to so much--its all here. What a joy and a burden to know that our words have such import upon other souls. Clearly, our words will outlive us, as the play again upon the hearts of our hearers. May we speak life, always!

    Beautiful, lilting poetry, gal. Loved it.

  • I like this for it truth how we as writers transform experience into emotion and thus into new experiences.

    I don't know why but I felt the sense you were writing about you mother. ?

    great job!

    Ken

      Thank you, Ken, for reading and for your comment! Actually, it is about my great-grandmother, whom I love and whom I know only through her written words...

    simply amazing ...

    such a graceful verse, full of serenity and wisdom ...
    serenity, because this is how I felt while reading it - wisdom, because I sense an attitude of gratitude in your words ... cherishing the simple moments, the simple things in life ... being content ... feeling whole ... perceiving no lack here and now ... where all is perfect the way it is ...

    your verse shows the reader one of the doorways towards peace and bliss ... intentional or unintentional, it works ...

    in using vivid imagery and appealing to the senses, especially to smell, sound and touch, your words are not just lofty, inaccessible concepts, but invite the reader to experience what has been said ...

    thank you for your poetic offering,
    maa

    the life that is in this poem is so bright and so perfect. i love the way you rolled the words around in your mouth and i love the way they spilled out on the paper for me to read them. i like the smells sights tastes and textures imbedded in the fabric of this peace. so beautifully constructed that i can see my self in each scean and in each scean i fould peace and warmt and love... but also a twist of some of the darker things. just the stuff we love to peal the layers off to find brillantly done and i am glad you were a featured poem so i could be introduced to your words. thank you for sharing.
