Which do obscure
In the selfish man's eye
This thing I will describe
Of selflessness
and empathy
Oh yes,
Empathy
An impressive demonstration
A utilitarian opposition
and say:
"I'll make this world a better place,
become of me what I may"
And then you find a stronger sense
of you
and when you do
You'll find a stronger sense of me
Author notes
This one was for a contest. I chose compassion as the word I'm looking deeper into. The top may look like I'm condemning reason and logic, but this is not the case, I love reason and logic. My point in the first few lines is that reason and logic can be misconstrued in a self-centered person. Also, further notes, I realize I don't have a consistent rhyme/lack-of-rhyme scheme, but I wrote what felt right for me. What it flows like for others, I cannot know. Oh yes, by contest holder's request I must say: Today, Tomorrow, and Every Day After.
Thanks

at first i thought you were using the word empathy, but I can definitely see compassion there. Very well written. Thanks for entering and good luck!
