Beneath friendships rain.
I think it’s going to rain today
I can almost smell it in the air. Suddenly
homeless men scamper under the boardwalk,
in the park across the street.
Trying for shelter, using what little they have.
One man Otto Titsling stays out on the field
he was drunkenly trying to dance the rain away.
The broken heart in my chest takes me back
to recent memories. My lover is gone, giving me the friendship theme only unsympathetic goodbye.
Never again, to be, ‘Baby mine, all mine’. I thought always “I know you by heart; you’re the wind beneath my wings”.
I ache knowing you have rejected our connection
Oh, industry of love and your tormenting games.
I am old and alone with not even a friend.
Repeating nightmares
that taunt and mentally scar me.
I shudder
Shed a tear once more,
my whole body aches, as all my faith is lost.
How do I accept the glory of love is gone?
Again, afraid to sleep and thinking
Why waste time with telling myself ‘keep your chin up’ or ‘I’ve still got my health”.
Rain sheets down creating a loud performance
of noises on the old tin roof.
My tears come fast and heavy and produce
a flood of their own.
I must dig deep
Somehow, find the strength
to be comfortably alone.

I like how you incorporated the songlist before your poem. I like how everything ebbed and flowed together. I enjoyed how you described what was going on and the feelings, the use of all the senses for that matter. I am speechless. Keep up the good work. Good luck in the contest. -
