It's eery how comforting
a simple mug of hot chocolate can be;
even more so when I think about
how this last year has been
At seven years old
you shouldn't have endured so much
guilt and remorse flood through me
at the thought of how easy your life
would have been if your dad was still around
Moving around from job to job
just to get us by,
sleeping in our car that month
when our landlard was without empathy
but we still managed to get it together
and finally a break;
a lodge that needed a manager
the owner a caring grandma
So she took us in
and showed us the definition
of Love and Hope;
for without her kindness,
you wouldn't be fast asleep
and in front of that fire with
a new kitten in your lap;
So I'll just sit here
and keep my tears to myself
and I pray to God
that someday I can repay Helen
for her random acts of kindness.
