A Different Route

Walking home from work
I decided to take a different route
and walk along the riverside,
Rather than the default route
via the children’s nursery.
So I went past the reeds
that still had raindrops on
from the afternoon shower.
I walked this different route
to avoid the friends who satirise me
Because of my kickboxing class.
But thank god today I did
because there she came toward me
with the curvature of her hips,
so sweet.
I felt a resurgence of life
within me;
I’ll stop and ask her out.

Author notes

Okay, so this is from an exercise in book I was reading. You have to take ten random words from a dictionary and write a poem including at leart eight of them. I can't say it is my best piece but it is a fun way to get you started.

Please tell me what you think

It is called 'A Complete Idiot's Guide to Poetry' it goes right back to basics but has a number of good exercises to get you writing.

I think its really great. it tells us about your views on bullying and love at first sight. a really emotional read. Such a great way to make a poem. Well done!
