the reason for the season
as he counts the money
wich is far less than days.
I watch in silence
wanting to say something
without making it worse;
nothing comes to mind.
We must face
big, blue, expecting eyes
and watch them shed tears
that should freeze
cold as it is in here.
Innocence fades quickly
as they are told that Santa
is not real. That even though
they were nice, no gifts
will grace our ghetto tree.
I utter a soundless prayer,
as I slip into his arms.
Ever grateful that at least
we are all together.

Ah, yes. The pain of being a parent and not meeting the expectations of little ones. I know that feeling.
Very nice poem you have here.

Very good write. Really shows how children think when they find out about Santa. Well done and good luck in the contest.
