Those we forget

I've seen the lights upon the trees,
But none are put there for me,
The logs on my fire,
And the empty chairs,
Help my silent home,
Show me that I'm all alone.

No gifts will I recieve,
The only people I will see,
Will be the smiling faces on ITV,
Wacthing happy familys pass,
Memories from long ago flash past,
This christmas I am alone.

Santa claus will not look in,
Nor will reindeer land on my roof,
My life is lost,
My eyes flutter closed,
It's cold,
So very cold.

While I do think the final few lines are a bit abrupt, perhaps telegraphing ideas too directly, the poem as a whole captures a certain emptiness that much inevitably accompany a time so closely linked to family, friends, and others.

Being without most of my family this year for the first time in decades, I can emphathize with the tone, mood, and imagery.

    Nicely handled.

There are millions who have to have this kind of Christmas, it is not a happy time for everyone. I hope this is just a poem from your imagination and not your life.
