5:12, Toronto

darkness and snow
wrap the city in a cold cocoon
as most lie sleeping,
an alien landscape
lit by cold blue lights
Our lamp post a welcoming beacon capped by snow
Shining bravely into the wild night
the air blows cold smells my way,
snow and cold
and freedom
as downy snow
whips round my face
I wonder, in childish delight
how this happened all last night,
as the city slept.

I love poems about where people live- because they usually have such colour and depth- and lots of feeling. This is wonderful! Snow always brings out the child in me too- and it's interesting how a light dusting of the white stuff can utterly change a landscape.
I like your writing style. So many tend to get too wordy- you keep it simple and make wise word choices and then string together artfully. That's what it's all about! Cheers for the chilly peek into your winter world!
