Dearly Departed

Dearly departed love.
May you never be forgotten,
Even though you are now gone.
May your legacy live on.

The friends you have made,
The achievements you have gotten,
Everything you have done,
Shall be forever remembered.

Your last resting place,
Your grave marker,
May it be a sacred everlasting home,
Beloved friend.

We will miss you dearly.
We shall always love you.
Past your last breath,
And beyond the grave.

Author notes

This poem was written back in april 1, 2006. but i thought it was a good time to bring it out for this poem and adapt it to fit the theme of the contest.

though nothing much has changed with the poem. i think it speaks for itself.

i originally wrote it for my granmother about my grandfather whose now passed on several years ago.

but it became more of a third person poem as some of my friends' relatives and even some of my own friends have died and moved on...

This is a lovely poem that is a wonderful tribute to our loved ones who have passed on. It is so true that may they never be forgotten, and they live on through us; our memories of them and through the mark that their precious lives left on the world and on us.

I like how you express the importance of the departed having left a legacy in their loved ones' lives that will "never be forgotten."

    Nicely written dear poet!

Thank you for entering my contest.

Its a pretty simplistic poem, which is nice, since, as you stated, it can sort of adapt to other people's stories and losses.

Sometimes the puncuation diffrences makes the poem seem a bit 'unraveled at the ends', for lack of a better expression, but, its not too bad.

    Nice
