The sky with white clouds turned from blue
Into a bolder sky of black
The train still clattered on the tracks
And homes and houses were in view.
The smell of fires in the homes
The sound of children's mother's calls
All were protected by garden walls
As relaxed adults started to roam.
Then suddenly there was a whirr
Of parties and the world arose
Each teenager began to pose
Old women say they remember.
But one woman stands alone
Tries to rest on the pavements tonight
And wakes with the glaring streetlights
That don't care for the lonely one.
