“I want a divorce”
And as soon as she heard those words she ran
But she was not running away
She was running up those stairs
To pack her bags
She had decided, she was going to live with her daddy
Packed everything important and ran back downstairs
Only to find her daddy walking out the door
So she kept running
She caught up with him and put her bag in the trunk
And he threw it back out
She didn’t understand
Why didn’t he wanted her
He told her that he needed to be alone
Needed to spend time with his new girlfriend
He said that her mama needed her
And that she couldn’t come with him
She begged him to open the door
To let her into the car, to take her away
And he told her no
He said one day he would be back for her
He looked his daughter in the eyes…
And said goodbye
Why didn’t he understand?
She didn’t want to be here
She screamed out to her daddy as he drove off
Her bags slowly fell out of her hands
Spilling the contents all down the road
For she had chased the car as far as she could
Her tears fell down her face like there was no tomorrow
And she wanted nothing more than to die
For her daddy had left her
She felt her mother pick her up and hug her
And take her back into the house
Her mama told her that she loved her
And asked her not to leave her again
She was young and confused
Heartbroken and lost
She didn’t understand
No child ever understands divorce

This is so sad and so very true. Kids often blame themselves and feel extremely torn apart. Great write.
