Along The Way

Everything that has been learned,
Forgotten pages that have been turned,
Another messiah burned,
No one can save them from themselves,

Imaginary books lining empty shelves,

*Chorus*

Along the way,

Many forever stay,

Those left behind,

They're in a bind,

One too many blind,

Unable to find,

The world so kind...

Ignorance is bliss,

Deceptions of an open eyed kiss,

Assumptions of a hit or a miss,

Questions left unanswered about this,

A revelation in disguise,

As clear as the body decays and dies,

Along the way,

Many forever stay,

Those left behind,

They're in a bind,

One too many blind,

Unable to find,

The world so kind...

A suicide left unsolved as to why,

Those tears that fall when one does cry,

After that too soon of a goodbye,

This river has become dry,

Cut down by the softest blow,

Left withered unable to grow,

Along the way,

Many forever stay,

Those left behind,

They're in a bind,

One too many blind,

Unable to find,

The world so kind...

Ten commands but what of eleven,

Uneven sins come in seven,

Is there a heaven,

A soul is it faded,

As one does become jaded,

Along the way,

Many forever stay,

Those left behind,

They're in a bind,

One too many blind,

Unable to find,

The world so kind...

Author notes

Dreamer Of Shadows,

Option 9. Depression. The story behind this poem. The sense of depression or madness created when one begins to question everything that has been told. I've experienced the very thing it talks about. The first 'verse' shows the realization that much of what we learn is 'empty'. The chorus, outlines the feeling of being left behind in the world, how cold it can see, a bit of cynicism in the line "A world so kind". Next comes the second verse, destruction of the illusion in a love, that proved to be nothing more than pain. The third verse mainly comprises of thoughts about questions, or things I wondered when a friend died through suicide, but no reason was ever found, And of course the emotions felt throughout, and the feeling of an inability to 'grow' or heal afterwards. The final verse, goes towards becoming faithless, wondering about what I have been told about religion, about everything in general about faith and how through hesitation it can so easily be severed. Whether a soul becomes faded like people become jaded.

I'm glad I read the author's notes. They helped to explain a little bit better what this meant. So far this is one of two songs I have had entered. I throughly enjoyed reading this. Best of Luck.

Amazing. Truely poetic. The rhyming was excellant and didn't seem at all forced. The flow was great. On a scale from one to ten I'd give this a 9. Thank you for entering my contest and good luck!!!
