I'm Sorry

I'm sorry that I cried
I should have known to leave you alone
and taken care of myself

I'm sorry that I needed you
I should've known this would was cold
that you have to tough

I'm sorry that I made you hit me
I should've let you sleep
not let you hear me cry not one single peep

I'm sorry that I couldn't get things with out help
my arms and legs are short
but that is no excuse

I'm sorry that I bothered you
took you from your life
you had a lot ahead of you being some ones future wife

I'm sorry again that I cried
but mommy let me tell you this
I'm NOT sorry that I died

I'm in a better place now
where I laugh, sing and play
the people who take care of me will never go away

They let me be a baby
they sing and laugh with me
here I've never been thrown across the room

I just think you should know it was all my fault
I'm sorry that I needed you
how selfish and cold of heart

But just remember mommy
I loved you from the start.

WOW. this is a very sad, yet powerful poem. it's sad because children shouldn't ever have to lose their lives all because of someone else. abuse is terrible and shouldn't happen. I survived domestic abuse, almost paying with my life. abuse runs rampid in this world, doesn't seem to me that much is done about this matter at all. it angers me, they are innocent. sorry that I am rambling. great poem.

    good luck in the contest.

    Rest in peace, baby

I read the description of the contest this was entered in, and it almost made me cry. Child abuse is always a tragedy, for no child ever deserves to die so cruelly. People like baby Grace's 'parents' should not be allowed to have children, but the fact that she [most likely] loved them anyway breaks my heart. Babies should just be allowed to be babies, as you said, plain and simple.

The only mistake I noticed was that 'cryed' should be 'cried'. Well-written, and good luck in the contest.

    Tears...this is so very sad...
The emotions in this piece are so vast..
I know so often children feel they need to be the ones to say sorry..how sad it is for me to think of what this child had to endure...
Shes in a much better place , I know this in my heart.
still its so hard to think about her having to live this way
Peace and many blessings to you..

Thank you for your entry and these are beautiful, heartfelt words. I'm sure that if this child could speak, she would certainly forgive her mother, because a child innocently loves their parents, no matter what.

    "Im sorry that I cried,
    but let me tell you,
I'm not sorry that I died"
    I'm in a better place,
where I laugh, sing and play,
the people who take care of me,
    will never go away"

Beautiful words, and I'm sure she's not sorry that she died because she is in a better place, and God and his angels will never go away.

    Good Luck and God Bless,
    Sincerely,
    Sassy
