I wonder
if the hardened muscles of my stomach
will clench again and kill the butterflies.
What will it be like without your words every night?
I close my eyes, and shoot up
another silent prayer.
Oh Lord, don't let me lose my faith.
Hold this craft in the palm of Your hand,
and guide it safely to another state.
What is keeping my legs from walking me straight out those doors?
All my life I've been running.
For what?
Boot camp-
A great place to pass the winter months.
Breathe out. Breathe in.
Quells the panic for the moment.
Fixing my gaze on a particularly interesting spot of muck
I realize
I never told them all how terrified I am.
Author notes
In a little over a year, I will be well on my way to Great Lakes, Illinois for United States Navy boot camp. Not only will it be the first time I'm on my own of my own volition and choice, it will be my first ride in a commercial airplane.
