The Skin Of My Teeth

You call me beautiful
But that's just a play on words that means
"You could be better"
And I swallow my tongue,
holding back the stream of melancholy words
that only a whore can speak.

But I understand;
I've got the kind of baggage
that even Louis Vuitton couldn't put a tag on,
And I was only ever the hands on a clock
that you use to pass the time,
But my heart wouldn't reason with my mind
So I'm stuck hoping it meant more.

I wish I could take my eyes out of my head
and replace them with fresh versions,
Ones that haven't seen tales
of heartbreak and misery;
Cause I've got more yesterday than anyone I know
And I'm just looking for a tomorrow.

Feeling was a cost I never should have paid,
Cause now you're gone, there's nowhere left to hide
And my skin is all I have keeping me in.

Meh. I hate it. Always do.

    "And I swallow my tongue,
    holding back the stream of melancholy words

    "Cause I've got more yesterday than anyone I know
    And I'm just looking for a tomorrow."

    Every poem that you write burns through me.
    I had such a hard time picking my favorite lines.
    They're all flawless.
