Reprieve

She knew in her heart that if she was caught
her world would come crashing down
and she would be picking up the pieces alone

But a pull of wanting and a need to be free
swept her up left her guilt ridden with grief

her husband is now dead, lying on the floor
the abuse has finally ended, the bloody knife in her hand
and no matter what happens she knows in her heart
her daughter is now safe from his disgusting ways
but the question remains:  Is she a murderer or a saint?

    Mother, wife, saint or sinner.
Which is she? Which is not?

To kill the one causing pain
    a murderer she became.
But for her child she did this,
    a mother's love is great.

Does a child deserve a life
where father touches in forbidden lands.
    Removing him, save her some,
but damage done can not be erased.

Saint she is to her child
for a mother's love is great.
Was a wife to evil born,
    taking that monster's life.

So, is she a murderer or saint?
My heart says she is only human
with the love of a mother.

(Rape that causes pain to a child
is one that can never be removed
even with the death of the one
    doing the damage. Please protect
    all children from this.)

with a choice like that I can not say
for if it was me I have other ways
gun in hand still be dead
pills to slip .. who am I kidding
    saint no, murderer yes
for the law will see her that way
    for taking a life
    and ending the shame
will not cure the child that died
the day her father touched her

    it never does
