There's only one way to go from here,
So I don't want you to fear...
I'll guide you every step of the way.
You'll grow into a big boy now,
You'll get through it somehow,
And I'll miss you every day.
Sometimes you'll cry on your own,
But you'll never be alone-
For I will always be with you.
And when you fall in love,
I'll look down from above,
You'll know that mummy loves you.
So be strong now, dear boy,
Go play with your toys,
There's plenty of time to be sad.
And if there's anything wrong,
Just promise me now son,
You'll go speak with your Dad.
When you feel life is tough,
Yes, things can get rough,
But I promise to look after you.
And if this isn't reassuring,
Whatever you're enduring,
Daddy will be feeling it too.
So, go on and play now,
Be a strong boy now-
Just remember it's OK to cry.
Just know, son, I love you,
I'll always think of you,
But it's time now to say goodbye.
Author notes
I've never had true love. So I wrote about my child. I think if I had a young child, this is what I would say.
