Hidden Epidemic

Spacious surgery
Welcomes me
Smiling doctor
Beckons reassuringly
Sits in large red leather armchair
Peering over reading glasses

Exuding safety and confidence
He listens quietly
As I speak of the torture
My body puts me through

Silently he pauses
Before shattering hope
“Your tests results
Tell me you are fine
Sorry I cannot help you
I think you are depressed”

As candida invades my organs
And mercury slaughters my mind
His final words ring through the haze
“The medical profession
Does not recognise your condition”

So I suffer on
With my unspoken reply
Playing over and over
Like a scratched record
“Why not?”

I'm going to see my new doctor tomorrow but I know that I'll walk away exasperated and crushed yet again.

Any idiot can work his way to a diploma that is basically a certificate that acknowledges how well one complies with the standards and conditioned knowledge of this society. But breaking away from the predefined frame is also possible - it contains matters we were urged to forget. In a world of fools, fools educate fools, which invariably results in more fools. Thank you for creating and sharing and never give up hope that there is a cure for everything. The reason they tell you they can't help is economical for a large part. But fools do not know and if they do they will not tell you. Take care,

    Chris

Surprisingly the new doctor's turning out not so bad! I had blood tests for everything on Friday, the full MOT and he said after that he'll investigate my digestive system. The previous docs didn't do any of this, just told me I ought to be alright!

    Gripping!

A very eerie account of this mysterious ailment. I'm curious as to what it actually is and how it was contracted, but am not meaning to pry so much as noting that you've captured your readers (this one, at least).

    Nice expression: "spacious surgery"

I like the narrative feel of your piece, and your imagery is excellent, putting me in your shoes and making me want to tear my hair out in frustration. You've done an wonderful job communicating the emotion. Thanks so much for entering my contest!
