The Pieta
W. Peter Sanci Dec. 5 / 2007
We all know of Michelangelo’s famous statues.
He was born in Italy in the village of Caprese, and he
was not known for his virtue.
His father was a government agent, and Michangelo became an apprentice in the famous city of Florence at the age of 12.
He started painting at first, but after a year or so, he began to sculpt, and he put painting on the shelve.
Can you believe he started working on “ ThePieta ! ”
when he was just 23 years old, an awfully young age
don’t you think ?
After this he was commissioned by Pope Julius II,
to paint the ceiling of “The Sistean Chapel, ” in The
Vatican, and this was to be his most famous work ,
The next ten years he spent working in Rome for
Pope Paul II,
Michangelo, died when he was 89 years old.
So there you have it my friends, A Reinannce Man all
around.
And now you can safely say with pride, that you know
A little of Italian Art History.
