The child in me still hides in shame
suppressing pain, accepting blame,
expecting scant, receiving naught
denied the clearance of free thought.
The heart in me cannot placate
the words of detriment and hate,
all given in the name of love
a trophy I’m not worthy of.
The sense in me can’t focus yet
to simply forgive and forget,
but still in time I hope to loose
the binding ties of child abuse.
The pain in me belies the smile
that shrewdly demonstrates the guile
and hurt that lies behind the mask
suspended in a vacuum flask.
The love in me holds no pretence
and cries out loud of innocence,
which needs some help to readjust
the harm procured in childish trust

Wow! This poem speaks loudly with strength screaming out throughout the entire poem. Touching nerves along the way. I thank you so much for sharing this treat with me and I wish you the best in the competition...

Beautiful
Speaks loudly, and not with only a child's awkward protestations of innocence, but also with a great strength of emotion.

this touched a nerve
this was such an amazing poem,
so many of us have experienced one form or another of child abuse.
it does not always have to be sexual.
it could be mental,or abandonment yet we go on.
most of us walk with a mask.
but push the wrong button or if we open our heart
just watch the tears flow....
its amazing what care or love can bring out in those of us whom have experienced abuse.
thank you for this brave poem!!

This was perfectly formatted and rhymed so well I almost did not notice it all all.
What a great subject to bring awareness to at this time of year or any time actually.
Well done poet, well done.
