And every year
we go, my family and I
to shop, to browse, to look!
But not for gifts.
No, we hunt for something
we can all share.
A pine tree!
Crisp, Fresh!
And when the pine tree ages
over the holiday, we change it.
we use the scent from the needles
to make peppermint-like poupurri for my father.
And we use its wood for firewood.
So my father can toast marshmallows.
My sister builds models from
the uneven twigs.
And I take the ornaments
so happily bestowed upon that tree
and hide them away
for next year.

christmas trees are useful even after the holiday.

Let the recycling begin! This is so true. Where i live so many people jus throw their trees in the woods after Christmas. The least they could do is put them on the side of the road for the town to pick up and turn into mulch. Enjoyed this piece. Best of luck in the contest.
