There are three children playing
in the sand, who are
excited to learn about the world,
to be taught by those older
and wiser than they,
they are ready to teach
those younger and even
more naive than they
As they grow, and age
so slowly it seems, a mere
hour by hour, a simple
day by day progression
of time in their lives
their parents see them
changing so rapidly
They ponder life's questions
in childish ways-
wondering how mom and dad can
live without each other,
how love can just end for them,
when for these children,
their love for their parents
and for each other
will last forever
They feel adult feelings
of jealousy, sadness,
feeling alone and angry
They are jealous of each other
for attributes or skills they
lack and possess,
they miss their father
and feel so alone without him-
surrounded by their family
but missing something so big
They're angry,
trying to skip stones
in the water-
but succeeding in only
sinking them
Love is just a myth
they begin to think,
once years have passed
and their father hasn't returned
Their anger builds,
their sadness grows,
and their family is
never again complete
But still they live,
in poverty, with their
emotions so strong and
so hard to put at bay
They use each other
as pillars, and with
their mother, they are stronger
than most can imagine a family to be
There are three adults walking
along the beach, who have
they are ready to share their lessons
with children, with their parents-
and most importantly,
with each other
Life is never easy,
but if it is they say,
you should turn and walk away-
and find a new path to take
They made their choice
so long ago,
to fight a good fight
and live this life
