Sun-struck morning stipples laughing lap of waves;
wide with willfulness, is manic in her state
of being bright and dark at the same moment.
Beneath her shimmied surface, is a turmoil
that can undo you; her rage, building, waiting
for some wildness to set her off
to grind at sloppy shores that make mistake
in discounting her many moods.
For now, accept her serendipitous smile
and tread lightly near her, for she is wanton
when she is worried or wracked with fury
and you do not know
how swiftly, and completely, she can swallow you.

Dear Carol,
I always watch how you make the characters/voices in your poems come so alive. This one is great. I am also so pleased and refreshed by your page. I forgot to even dress my front page up with anything but art. You are so classy.
