" Poetry heals the wounds inflicted by reason. " ~Novalis
Can I really write away
my pain?
Can I stab away at my worries
with a pencil,
make them dissipate with
well-written words?
Can I truly express to you,
or anyone really,
how I feel in
this very moment?
Or is this trivial
piece of writing
worth writing
at all?
Can I heal myself
by expressing my
emotions that are
tearing me apart,
from the inside out?
Can I restitch my own wounds-
is my rhyming scheme
my scalpel, my vocabulary
my latex gloves?
The concept is fine and well
until you consider this:
I can write poetry,
and heal my wounds-
but who will be there
to prevent them
from reopening?
Who will edit my poetry,
who will care to read it
who will understand it-
who will understand me?
Poetry only temporarily
makes us forget the
pain we feel-
love heals everything.
Poetry is a band aid
for the wounds that I possess,
and I hope that the love
that surrounds me
is enough to heal me
permanently.
Please tell me what you think
