Addicted

Arms bound, wasting away in self-destruction;
chained by my self-inflicted misery addiction,
I melt inside the inferno that is my life.

High on ignorance and complete absurdity,
I wallow in the filth that is my stupidity.
Soaked in self-indulgence, I bathe in oblivion;
the water which once cleansed me now seems laced with devils venom.

Imprisoned by my evil side, my insides cry for salvation.
They beg, they plead, they howl and they scream,
but I ignore their attempts to convince me I'm condemned.
Infesting my fragile virtue and weakening decency;
like a plague my deception has corrupted my morality.

Will I ever break free from this grip unrelenting,
which has invaded my soul so relentlessly?
Or shall I remain eternally shamed, unforgiven;
left to waste away amidst the sins I foolishly inhabited.

    Dear poet, thank you for your time in entering my contest. I wish you all the luck in moving onto the finals. All finalists will be added to the finalist list, and be notified on the contest page after judging. All entries will be judged fairly

    This poem has some very unique qualities about it. I really liked your word choice. Your vocabulary is superb! :]. I know far too well about addictions and how they can take over your life. It's something everyone knows about in some way or another, I believe. Good entry, and the last section was definitely great closure. ~ Kerri

    I know that feeling like the back of my hand.

    A perfect, iluminated picture of life.
