is santa real? ... (Not an entry for judging)

is santa real?

so many times I’ve  asked

not just myself

but mamma, daddy

grandma and gramps

they all said ‘yes’

and I’d better be good

or I’d wake up Christmas morn

to a bundle of switches

or nothing at all

santa doesn’t fool around, they said

he keeps lists

and checks them all year

well I decided to not believe in santa

too chancey, I figured

then I saw him!

right there in the middle of the mall

fluffy white beard

red suit just like in the pictures

and even his reindeer standing by

munching hay

and those big soft eyes

of course they were real

and santa,  kiddies on his lap

listening to them

as they listed what they hoped to find

under their Christmas tree

well, I knew right then

santa wasn’t a fib

so I’d better start believing

and I’ve been good ever since

I almost have

my Christmas wish list finished

… for this year

and I’m sending it in a great big birthday card

big enough to cover each month

‘cuz I don’t know when it is

This is not an entry for judging... just a tongue in

cheek spur of the moment thing to help

get started, and wont count for bonus

points, either.  This will throw the numbers off

but I'll allow for that when doing the bonus

points. Maybe I'll remove it later or remove

it then add back to the last.

I'll figure out something.

    Hoodwinked!

haha I thought this line was funny: I almost have

    my Christmas wish list finished

    … for this year

"For this year" brings out the inner child of the speaker in the poem. Free verse worked out nicely in this poem, I think it was a good idea to stick with it. Nicely written.

Great cheery poem, gets me in the christmas mood. I loved this bit:

    well, I knew right then

    santa wasn’t a fib

    so I’d better start believing

and I’ve been good ever since.

Thanks for the wonderful holiday read.

I've seen the man with my own two eyes
so I know that he is real
Even though right presents didn't bring
to me were still a thrill

The ones with hopes to spread the lies
in a test to kill to win
Is the world most jealous of his size
    an industry of super thin

    Happy Holidays...

    Hugs...Eddy

    hello my lovely mama

"is santa real?" My answer to this question depends on my mama's idea; if she says "yes", I'll also say "YES" and if not I'd say "NO". But since you decided to believe he's real; so I'll just follow you.
Love you mama and I think you should NOT remove this happy nice entry from the contest.

btw...the background is nice as well.

When I started reading your story A lot of doubts came into my mind as to how it was going to end.
You did a beautiful job with this and I realy loved the end.I read all the comments on your story.
I hope you wont mind if I add the last part of a Story I told my two little grandaughters.
Titled "I believe in Santa Clause"

This is a story I told My two little Grandaughters. In the Conclusion I told them. Yes I believe in Santa Clause and always will because believeing in Santa Clause is more than getting Presents on Christmas morning more than a jolly little man in a Red and White Suit and Sleighs and Reindeers.
Its having Faith and Believing in something that you can look forward to. It's being able to wish and believe it will come true.
It's having Hope that there is something good coming your way.
Believing in Santa Claus is believing that dreams do come true.
To Me saying I don't believe in Santa Claus would be like saying I nolonger Have faith or Hope or the desire to Wish and nolonger have a Dream. Yes for Me there will always be a "SANTA CLAUS"

You don't know when Christmas is? It's like, every day...just like my birthday!

Not believe in Santa?...I never heard of such a thing. I'm glad he woke you up because he's not the kind of fellow to mess with. I called him fat one year and I got the flu for Christmas! Oh sure there's that twinkle in his eyes and ruby red cheeks and nose...it's booze though! It's cold down at the pole, and nothing to do all year but talk to reindeer, elves and old lady Claus, and she's an ole nag!

So you see, Santa's a grumpy old curmudgeon who doesn't take much from all of us. Why do you think he wears those pointed boots? It ain't to get through the snow...it's to kick folk in the keester!

Ah poor Mitchells-girl (below) She doesn't believe in Santa...old Kris Kringle won't be pleased to here that! There'll be a sad time in her house this Christmas...and there's nothing she can do...Santa is omnipresent...he knows all...and he is vindictive!

Poor Mitchells-girl...I pray Mitchell sets her straight.

I know, I know. And I figure I might as well not take any more chances by not believing. Besides, remember Virginia? That should be proof right there.

And as far is the booze is concerned, I figure whatever it takes for Santa to make it through the year is fine with me, Yem. I might even stick in a gift certificate for a bottle of the booze of his choice along with that birthday card and Christmas list. You see, I also heard that he takes bribes, big time... maybe I better make it two gift certificates and a bottle of tranquilizers for Mrs. Clause, maybe some earplugs
