Castles In The Sand - An Adventure Through Poetry

Missing image
I have always felt that it was normal to "create" from a different level;
a level where I could blend the element of mystery with every day occurrences.
I thought everyone did it.

My goal is to offer you the experience of taste, touch,
sight and sound in a place where angels exist and fairy
wings billow on the edge of a meadow near dusk; a world where,
the sun touching the horizon, holds its glow as if it were a gold bar.
An existence where the glistening of moonlight on a dewdrop
provides light to an entire ocean; where mermaids swim and glitter
above coral reefs as anglers watch for their magical powers
at the dawning of a storm.

With Castles In The Sand, your journey has just begun.

Fishing Camp

Quiet sunset in the jack pines
leaves not but the summer sun
parched upon the lips of a
tired fisherman.

Sunfish and a small mouth bass.
Supper would be sparse;
there would again
be tomorrow.

Boiling lake water
for a fine pot of coffee,
tearing a rim of rye-baked bread;
he dines.

Fish, lightly fried in
the camp skillet sauted with
fresh fairy rings from the morning;
he sighs.

Fresh bait would be needed
for the day tomorrow.
Perhaps a favorite lure, but for now,
he rests.

Jack pines silhouette against
the pink and blue sky.
Mirrored images that ripple lightly.
A loon calls.

Atargatis

Integrity and charm
allay my hungry thirst,
I glimpse the liquid beauty
of how you are immersed.

Tail, taught and trim,
lips of pomegranate red,
Torrid, sensuous, epiphany
harness pain within my head.

Consider the erotic haze
in which you beckon man.
Replayed in history throughout time;
syrian goddess has her plan.

Flowing hair cascading,
diminish all charade,
enveloped in the moment,
once personified; betrayed.

Elusive as the rainbow
touching inner soul again.
Singing sweet, melodic songs
that harness hearts of men.

Seeming like a dream.
Yesterday seems far away,
Since the nuance of this beam.
Time passed quickly surfing,
Each and every day.
Making all the days we have simply slip away.

Castles in the Sand

There I was so long ago
building castles in the sand;
waiting for my prince to come,
to claim my ivory hand.

I waited in the sunshine,
and many a man arrived,
but true love and contentment
in me had never thrived.

Through many golden tales,
through times of good and bad,
I felt alone, imprisoned,
in those loves that kept me sad.

My dreams were filled with faceless men
who shattered life and love.
Yet still I sifted sand and surf
with faith from up above.

I watched my children play their games.
I watched those men play theirs.
I cleaned and cooked and entertained,
I handled their affairs.

When at last I sat in silence,
my castle filled with rain.
I looked away in quiet thought
hoping to ease my pain.

I felt the need to touch the sky
atop my castle wall,
I'd always dreamed of life in love;
held on to wanting all.

On a whim of wonder,
I turned a golden page;
read of knights and thunder,
and the romance they would wage.

A tale that proved quite worthy
of my castle in the sand
for there I stood just smiling
as he grasped my ivory hand.

    congratulations on publishing your book, pamela !
    I smiled when I read the intro to your presentation, where you say :

    "I have always felt that it was normal to "create" from a different level;
    a level where I could blend the element of mystery with every day occurrences.
    I thought everyone did it."

    well, maybe not everyone, that's why we need pamela !

    your poetry is not only rich in imagery and very vivid in creating emotion through the use of sense-perceptions, but it also tells a story ... and in letting the words infuse, the reader realizes the extraordinariness of the ordinary ... the bliss that lies in simplicity ...

    thank you for sharing your gift,

    maa
