Woke up today found frost perched on my window sill
It hovers in a frozen sky and gobbles up my will
Cold and shiverin' trees are standing naked in a row
I get this urge for going but I'm told to let it go
I have an Autumn Love with a tender touching smile
Not another one I wanted only her to stay awhile
But after leaves fell tumbling and rumblings came of snow
She got the urge for going I unwillingly let her go
The weary woes of winter gave a cold triumphant shout
All we said and did was dying and possibilities played out
I now see geese in chevron flight flapping 'cause they know
She has their urge for fleeing and she has the wings to go
I have piled the fire with kindlin' and pull blankets to my chin
I've blocked the vagrant winter out and locked my wanderin' in
I would call back Autumn Love tell her to stay forever more
But she feels the urge for flying and now I freely let her soar
