Tonight I ran down the middle of a road. Chasing one single star in the sky. Hoping to god it'll never outrun me. With my hands stretched to the sky, the wind as my guide, I never noticed the cars catching up. Head lights defining every hair on the back of my head with brillant velocity. My shoes turning to blurs under me, I headed down a hill never looking away from the star. The cars turned away, headlights dimming, and the star disappeared.
The Shadow man whispered that it would be okay.
I head home, the muscles in my legs aching with every step, they hated me for what I had done. I turn the corner to my driveway noticing the light above my door was on. I had left in the dark.
And it was then that I realized, the sun had gone down, but it would rise again. Maybe with different eyes but it would be shining once more. I didn't need it to light my way home, I found it in the dark.
It's always darkest before dawn but dawn will come.
