Christmas Carousel

The child giggled with delight as she ran around the house on Christmas eve
Her mother worked hard in the kitchen getting everything ready before everyone came
Their Christmas feast would be an interesting assortment and lined up on the dark-wood
Of the buffet in the sunk in dining room were cookies on trays that the child had made
Her Mother helped her of course, but she had made them and she kept glancing at them
So Proud of her amazing work of colorful sprinkles and green, red cherries on them
Those round sugary cookies, some of them in the shape of gingerbread men and Santa
She tried to stay out of trouble as she grabbed a small cookie with a cherry in it
She ran off to adore the lovingly placed Christmas Ornaments and gaze at the tree
With it's gleaming bright lights shining so,she starred wide-eyed at everything
As if in a daze; when she looked at the crystal ballerina the colorful reflections
From the lights made it seem almost magical to her and she stood there for awhile
Noticing crumbs had fallen upon her beautiful green dress with white lace she ran
Quickly into the kitchen and grabbed a paper towel hoping that she wouldn't mess up
Her Mother had reminded her over and over again how pretty she looked and the girl knew
She would greatly disappoint her Mother if she looked crumby, she didn't want that
Luckily she looked fine again and went dancing about the house looking at the stairs
The case was lined with huge Red bows with brass bells on them and she was amazed
She didn't know why because they came out every year like the year before, but she was
Such is the heart and mind of a child no matter how many times you see something
It's like it's new again and bright, cheery, full of hope, and full of life
Her favorite decoration of all though...the one she always saved for last to see
Was the Christmas Carousel her mom would put on the glass table near the dining room
It played Christmas music and lit up joyfully with multicolors flowing as it went
Round, Round, and Round again almost like a real carousel at the amusement parks

The Horses went up and down on their poles, they were all different colors and sizes

Some were medium others were large, some were black, white, and brown others were solid

They all had either a Christmas bow on them or a Christmas wreath with poinsetta's and of course

Like all Carousel's it played Christmas music and the child sat there listening to it until everyone

Showed up and sat down to an excellent Christmas meal full of love and joy,the girl smiled.

i truly love the scene you describe. this style of poetry is new to me, but i really like it. by just your vocabulary, i could see, what was going on and i really saw the perfect holiday written all over it. the ending was great. you described everything from the food, to the girl, to the tree. i smell the holiday, and i can see that you put a lot of thought and effort into this writing. terrific job. ~nora
