Passion's Promise

Our bodies come together:
cook breakfast together for supper,
play on the floor with the puppies,
walk barefoot in your kitchen;
sit on the patio while you smoke, ride together in your truck,
go to church, hold hands and pray,
make Christmas wreaths with friends, go out to supper,
take bites from each others plates, run errands,
look for cards for your brother’s birthday, watch television, listen to music, drink coffee at Starbuck’s,
look into each other’s eyes when we talk,
lean on the truck in a parking lot if we aren’t through
talking or sat on the tailgate once for hours,
who cared what anyone thought?

Arms brush, fingers touch your face,
little hugs, little kisses
all the list of little things our bodies
say to each other when we’re together
sharing stories, laughter or tears and doing things
with our bodies that speak to our souls.

Passion comes in many forms and guises
but for now its season is expressed sensually;
in candlelight and fragrance, dappled sunshine, unexpected surprises, little treats you like to eat,
scented soaps or the simple sound of your voice
saying that your body would like to see my body...soon.
