So Grateful

I rang you last night,

With some horrible news,

My dog had died,

So painful to lose.

I talked to you,

And started to cry,

Nothing felt right,

Why did he die?

But you stayed strong,

And listened to every word,

You replied calmly,

Said things I’m glad I heard.

Without you there,

I wouldn’t have known what to do,

I’m just so grateful,

To have a friend like you.

Then one night,

My phone started ringing,

It was you on the other line,

Saying that your dog had gone missing.

I was so shocked,

But I stayed there with you,

Listening intently,

No clue what to do.

I said some words,

But only a few,

Trying my best,

To get you through.

And now I think,

How hard it was to say,

Those wonderful things,

You said that day.

Author notes

This poem was written off a true story that happened to a couple of friends of mine. It's pretty much self explanatory. :]

And you said you couldn't write poetry! *Gasp* I loved the conclusion; it was so warm and grateful. Ah, now I understand the title I can't relate to this because I've never been really close to a pet, but I can relate to having an understanding friend. I hope to see more of your poetry soon!

It is like loosing a child when you loose a beloved pet. You will see your dog again someday- this I can assure you.

I'm sorry about the loss of your dog. This really reminds me of a poem that I wrote about my friends. I always like reading pieces that are obviously very personal. Nice job.
