Brother, I Miss You

Now that you work, I never see you.
And when I do, you're so tired.
These words written down are my thoughts.
I wish I were otherwise inspired.

You were always my stupid protector
Though secretly, I didn't mind.
I thought that you'd always be there, but
You grew up, leaving me behind.

Most other siblings aren't close;
I'm lucky that you are my friend.
But our lives will just get more separate
I wish that it couldn't all end.

You'll get married and I'll be so proud
Maybe I'll find a husband too.
But I'll never forget you and me as kids.

Brother,
Big brother, I miss you.

Author notes

I wrote this poem in the middle of the night when I got the idea, and every time I read through it, it makes me cry. I miss my brother so much. I know it's nothing tragic; no one died or anything. But still. He tells me no matter what he'll always be there, but it makes me sad to know that we'll both get our own lives and it just won't be the same. I hope I've expressed all this in my piece

"Now that you work, I never see you."
I think that was written out wrong? It didn't really make sense.
Anyway... I always wanted a big brother! I am the oldest of four and I never got that protector feeling. This was such a sweet piece to read! You two must be very close.
