Frigid air bombards her face
Nipping her nose
With little love bites
Inhaling,
She smells the strong sent of winter
Fire mixed with evergreen
Filling the night air
Above
In a pitch black sky
Lie radiant stars arranged in a heart shape
With the occasional plane interrupting the brilliant shape
Clouds border the heart seemingly still in the sky
Snowflakes brush the ground
Creating a fairytale like scene
A slight breeze causes tiny bumps to form on her skin
As if to tell her to go back inside
But she keeps on running
Away from her past
On this perfect night
everything seems further away from reality
The scars on her wrist appear to be a nightmare
One in which she will wake up from
All she needs is a pinch
But as she runs
Memories flash back to her
Pain and suffering take over her body
She drops down suddenly
In the middle of the road
Knees pulled up to her chest
I watch her rock back and forth
Imagining what her life story is
And what goes on in her mind
I shout out with compassion
All I hear in reply is a moan
Not one heard in a dream but in a nightmare
Sounds fill my ears
A motor nearing
Unconsciously, I catapult myself towards the girl
Brakes screaming out
I wait for the scream
But the only one I hear is my own
Realizing that I am not in a nightmare
But in fact in life
The only difference between life and nightmares
Is this time, I don't wake up
