in a rush to get home to her love.
Every minute seems to last for an hour,
she curses the time clock above.
She taps at the keyboard in patterns
and thinks of how lucky she is,
To have found a love so committed,
he is hers, in return she is his.
Before him, no one else seemed to matter,
her heart was protected from fools.
But her guarded existence was shattered,
for him she threw out all the rules.
With his love she feels so protected
a comfort she’s longed to possess,
On those days when she feels like a failure,
he reminds her that she’s a success.
Five minutes to six, her briefcase is packed,
wastes no time to get out the door,
Sitting in traffic, her heart beating fast,
for she only has one mile more.
Into the house, she calls out his name
“Indy Jones!” and she waits for the sound,
A bolt of thundering love comes her way
and today she gets knocked to the ground.
Apologies come quickly by way of a kiss,
the softest and coldest wet nose,
Her heart and her soul is wrapped around his,
so she laughs, his excitement just grows.
His tail tells his mood and it’s always the same,
he’s so happy; each day brings him joy,
No matter the bad day that she might have had,
she’ll forget with some love from her boy.
Author notes
Indiana Jones, Indy Jones, Indy J, Jonsey, Jones Bones (he is really popular in the neighborhood, I think I covered all of his nicknames!)... 120 pound german shepard who is taller than me when he stands up. When he was a little puppy the vets warned me to get him in obedience school due to his size and mine, I ignored the advice. So I brace myself for it everyday....He knocks me down about twice a week on average. ((I moved the loveseat closer to the door, so I have a soft place to fall)) I never get mad....Its the most love I have ever felt. Worth every fall I've taken (even BEFORE I moved that loveseat)!! :-)

This had a twist I didn’t figure out until half way trough it. It was cool I love dogs we have always had them growing up in the sticks. And German Sheppards are awesome dogs too btw.

your love for Indy, flows like a stream
hard to seperate, like milk and cream
his rewarding shake, from his big tail
signals his love, that he'll never fail... rudolf

Cute!!
Yes a dog or any pet can become a member of the family that sole purpose in life is to give you love!
Very Well written & versed with good flow--Best of luck in the contest!

Thank you for sharing this adorable write, and bringing back some wonderful memories of my precious German Shepherd. We did training school with him; but it didn't do any good. He still jumped on us and covered us with kisses. When I walked him, he would sometimes run ahead and I would end up almost flying behind him. He would never leave me. ONe time, my son was walking with us and holding the leash. Poppy refused to go ahead without me. He was a stubborn, lovable oaf and I miss him so much!

This was great. Rhyme, rhythm, good start, good conclusion, keeps attention, cool back story. This is all I'm looking for in the entries. Great job!
You definently understand what a pet can be and I love the way you've expressed it!

As we have had nearly 100 entries this has been a difficult contest to judge and although not a winner, we thoroughly enjoyed reading your entry.
We hope that you will enter the rest of the rounds in our Rhyming Extravaganza.

This was GREAT! The rhythm, the metre and there was a surprise at the end. I would like to give you twenty points, but the most I can give is three. I like dogs, too, by the way, they never argue.

Outstanding!
You faked me out with this being about your pet. However, your pup reminds me of my first German Shepherd-Sasha. Sasha was 125 pounds of bounding joy and love.
