Walkin' down the street
Hard day at the factory
Pulled two shifts
Nothing doesn't hurt
Just want to get home
Have a smoke and a meal
And get to bed with Marie
What's that yell
Hear a cry
A moan
Peers into an alley
Sees a boy
Beaten and battered
A man is thrashing the body of the boy
The man is a soldier
What could the boy have done
"I'll teach you"
Said the soldier
The accent was very think
The man pulled hand back
And slammed it forward to the boy
The boy fell
And a tooth spilled from his mouth with blood
Horrified and shocked
Scared and sympathetic
Help
What to do
Surely the boy was innocent
Or at least what was done
Is not worthy of such a merciless beating
After contemplating the situation
Walks on
Walks home
Doesn't listen to the cries
Doesn't listen to the moans
Smoke, that's what is needed
